Late last week American Express announced new benefits coming to the Personal Platinum card. Questions emerged whether the Business Platinum card would see new benefits as well and today we find out that the Business Platinum card is in fact receiving new benefits. I’ve shared my dislike of the new Platinum card changes, so let’s see if the Business Platinum card upgrades are better.
- 5x on flights and prepaid hotels booked through AmexTravel.com
- (Does not earn hotel elite nights or hotel points
- Priority Pass membership will allow 2 free guests
- Annual fee remains at $450 annually
Thoughts on new benefits
These new changes are quite underwhelming to me but I am quite excited the annual fee remains the same at $450 a year. The 5x on flights and prepaid hotel bookings through Amex Travel is a nice bonus but I doubt I’ll ever use the benefit. I prefer to book my travel directly with airlines and hotels through cash back portals as it not only earns me cash back but it also earns me elite points and elite credit. Bookings through Amex Travel or online travel agencies don’t always earn elite nights credits and loyalty points.
The addition of two free guests to the Priority Pass membership is a very nice addition as guests otherwise would cost $27 per person. This new guest policy is still unfortunately not quite as great as other cards though as the Chase Sapphire Reserve offers unlimited free guests or the Citi Prestige that offers two free guests or free access for your entire immediate family.
The changes to the Business Platinum card are thankfully not nearly as bad as the personal Platinum card. I am very thankful for the new guesting policy for the Priority Pass membership and that the annual fee will remain the same. The 5x on airfare and prepaid hotels through AmexTravel.com will have no benefit for me and I wish it was 5x on airfare and hotels when booking directly with airlines and hotels.
What are you thoughts on the new Amex Business Platinum changes?
