Today I was surprised by an email from Singapore Airlines stating they are making changes to their award ticket pricing. Unlike the normal trend of airlines devaluing their programs, the changes Singapore Airlines is making is not all for the worse. All these changes take effect on March 23rd, 2017.
Three changes to award ticket pricing
- Increased Saver Award pricing for a handful of routes
-Routes originating from the USA were affected. For example East Coast USA to Singapore one way increased by 1,000 miles.
- The 15% discount for redemption’s made online or through mobile channels is being discontinued
- Fuel and insurance surcharge will be removed from all Singapore Airlines and SilkAir operated flights
While Singapore Airlines is increasing their pricing on saver awards and removing the 15% discount for online and mobile award redemption’s, at least they are removing fuel surcharges on Singapore Airlines and SilkAir flights. These changes become effective on March 23rd, 2017, so if you have any future redemption’s in mind make them sooner rather than later.
