How I Stayed At Walt Disney World On Points

This past weekend my wife and I enjoyed a nice quick weekend trip to Walt Disney World. Despite what many think, there are possibilities to use points to stay at Disney World including 2 SPG properties and 1 Hilton property. The two SPG properties include the Walt Disney World Swan (a Westin hotel) and the Walt Disney World Dolphin (a Sheraton hotel) and the one Hilton property includes the Hilton Disney Springs. I am a SPG loyalist and have yet stayed at a Westin property (a true shame I know), so we ended up at the Walt Disney World Swan.

Walt Disney World Swan

My lovely room at the Swan

The Walt Disney World Swan sits on the Epcot property and runs for about $300 per night or 12,000 SPG points. When I started looking at hotels at Disney, I was expecting to see overpriced points option and boy was I wrong. At only 12,000 points, for a $300 hotel room that’s 2.5 cents value per point! A fantastic redemption if you ask me. Unfortunately the hotel does charge a resort fee and parking. The resort fee is $25 which is reduced to $20 for SPG Platinum members. Parking is $20 per night for self parking and $28 per night for valet parking.
Short on SPG points?

For those short on SPG points, consider signing up for the Amex SPG card. It currently has the highest ever sign up bonus I’ve seen on the card at 35,000 Starpoints. You’ll earn 25,000 Starpoints after spending $3,000 in 3 months and then earn an additional 10,000 Starpoints after spending an additional $2,000 in the first 6 months. After meeting the minimum spend you’ll have 40,000 Starpoints, which is enough for 3 free nights. Consider signing up your significant other as well, which will earn you an additional 40,000 Starpoints or 3 free nights.

If you have a small business, consider signing up for the Amex SPG business card. It currently also has the 35,000 Starpoints bonus. You’ll earn 25,000 Starpoints after spending $5,000 in the first 3 months and an additioanl 10,000 Starpoints after spending an additioanl $3,000 in the first 6 months.

If you have a friend with the SPG card, ask them to refer you which will earn them 5,000 Starpoints. If you don’t have a friend and would like to use my referral link, click the Amex SPG card link above.

Conclusion

While Disney World is the happiest place on earth, it can also put a huge strain on your wallet. I was very happy to see such a great redemption option in the Walt Disney World Swan and definitely recommend this hotel to anyone who is visiting Walt Disney World soon!
